One of our favorite traditions is the fabled holiday letter you would receive every year, recounting the triumphs and travails family friends had experienced during the months prior. Sometimes the events were legitimate milestones (“It was a big year for us. We won the lottery and had triplets…”) but often the news seemed a bit silly (“Our Pug, Yoda, won Best in Show this year…”) and reminded us that newsworthiness is in the eye of the beholder.
Keeping that in mind, we’ve decided to send V2’s version of the holiday letter this year. We hope you enjoy reading it while you sip the Stag’s Leap vintages we’re sending to help you celebrate the holidays, since we can’t get together at V2’s annual bash this year.
One thing that unites us this holiday season is the recognition that this has been a year like no other. Our 2020 kicked off with a rebrand of V2 and a fabulous party at Yvonne’s, probably the last time we gathered unmasked in a big group before the quarantine kicked in. We closed our office shortly after and breathed a sigh of relief as our staff rose to the occasion, more productive than ever and figuring out creative ways to stay connected as we all hunkered down.
It was while we were watching the local news that we found out about the water main break in the South End that sent a flood down Harrison Avenue in early April. More than six feet of water damaged the elevators and building infrastructure at 500 Harrison Ave, necessitating the shutdown of our building. V2’s office is on the fourth floor, so we felt fortunate to have escaped any physical damage. Still, we were without access to the office until the building reopened in September.
Undaunted by all the drama, we stayed focused on coming up with creative ways of delivering results for clients. V2 partnered with our client ASG to produce the Digital: Disrupted podcast on all things digital transformation. In addition, we learned that V2’s work had won three campaign awards from PRNEWS and the Bell Ringers and our campaigns are finalists in four categories of RAGAN PR Daily, which will be announced next month. We are experiencing so much traction with our client programs that we’ve had to hire new staff, growing our headcount by 16 percent.
But life at V2 hasn’t been all work and no play. During the quarantine, we sent surprise gift packages to staff every month and it was a tossup as to whether cookies from Milk Bar or miniature bottles of Rose were the most popular. The office water cooler experience is replicated by V2 Kitchen Chats over Teams, where we share photos of our furry friends, recommendations for what we’re watching on TV and play “Guess the V2er,” a game that helps us get to know each other better. We also formed a remote book club. We worked hard to maintain our culture and fun spirit during the months of isolation and were rewarded when V2 was named “Top Places to Work” on PRNEWS 2020 list in September.
We officially opened the Boston office in October for team members who felt comfortable returning to work, just in time to begin planning for 2021. As a first step, we undertook a 2020 review and the stats are in. We are thrilled to report that we are on track to enjoy revenue growth of 13 percent this year. We’ve added 12 new clients to our roster and last but not least, V2 was named one of America’s Top PR Firms by Forbes. It’s especially gratifying to us to earn this honor during such a challenging year.
We know that none of this would be possible without your support and partnership and the dedication of our great staff. Thank you so much for letting us be part of your journey and please accept our warmest wishes to you and your family for a safe, healthy and successful 2021.
